Black Canyon of the Gunnison, 2016

Last weekend’s journey took me to Glenwood Hot Springs, Colorado for a winter swim and then on to Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, and Dead Horse Point State Park, all located in Utah.  However, the grand finale was the last day spent in the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, located near Montrose, Colorado.  In the Flickr link below, the young people in the pictures are Vietnamese ‘3 + 1’ dual degree students attending Colorado State University for their final year (Thao, Huong, and Chau).  We went on a terrific 4-mile snowshoe along the South Rim.  Bear in mind, these students are from Hanoi and have never snowshoed, much less experienced weather like this — windy and 15 F.  Nevertheless, they did a great job, smiling every step of the way, and we had a great time in this gorgeous park.
